The fire started at 63-65 St. James Street around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, the outlet reports. All 12 survivors exited the building before fire department personnel arrived on the scene.
The fire was able to be contained within an hour and no nearby buildings were impacted. Both people taken to the hospital were said to have minor injuries, the outlet said.
Jessica Mendes, one of the affected residents, created a GoFundMe fundraiser. Mendes's grandfather was injured because of the fire, the fundraiser states. The fundraiser is seeking to raise $6,000 to help Mendes, who, according the the GoFundMe site, lost everything in the blaze.
The Red Cross of Massachusetts is working to find temporary housing for those affected, WCVB reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
